In the last decade Muir Woods experienced a significant increase in visitation, growing to 1.1 million visitors in 2016. The reservation system limits the number of vehicles and shuttle reservations that are allowed to park at the Monument, ensuring less traffic congestion, decreased crowding, and thereby improving the visitor experience and safety.
