Muir Beach
Muir Beach is a small, tranquil beach located just a short drive from Muir Woods. It offers a peaceful escape, perfect for picnicking, relaxing, or enjoying coastal views. The area features nearby hiking trails, such as the Coastal Trail, and a lagoon that serves as a habitat for diverse wildlife. Dogs are welcome at Muir Beach but must be kept on a leash in certain areas. Parking is limited, so plan to arrive early to secure a spot
Stinson Beach
Stinson Beach is larger and more popular, located about 30 minutes north of Muir Woods along Highway 1. It's one of the few beaches in the area suitable for swimming, thanks to lifeguards on duty during the summer months. Visitors can enjoy picnicking, barbecues, hiking, and exploring nearby trails. Facilities include restrooms, showers, and food options at the Siren Canteen. Accessibility features include beach wheelchairs, available upon request from the lifeguard office. However, dogs are not permitted on the beach itself
Both beaches offer stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and are part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Whether you're looking for a serene retreat or a day of fun in the sun, these beaches provide a wonderful complement to a visit to Muir Woods.
